The Nanjo Art Museum is the only museum in the country with a residential artist’s atelier. The approximately 100 square metre space is equipped with a studio for creative work, a bedroom, a shower room and a kitchen. Artists can create and give lectures while living in a unique environment. The one-off experiences that artists can have here, being in contact with the nature and traditional culture of Okinawa and communicating with local people and artists, can bring about unique creative works. The inspiration that flows from creating in an unusual space, and the works that emerge from it, may show us previously unknown expressions that even the artists themselves could not have previously imagined.
